[MEUSNIER DE QUERLON (Anne-Gabriel). Regulations... - Lot 123 - Kâ-Mondo
[MEUSNIER DE QUERLON (Anne-Gabriel). Regulations for the Paris Opera, with historical notes. In Utopia, by Thomas Morus,1743. In-12, [1] f. (title-front), 68 p., 19th century vellum in Bradel style, red basane title-piece throughout (front endpaper with short margins, date half missing). An imaginary and satirical settlement, which nevertheless offers a faithful reflection of the way actresses were considered at the time, both as actresses and courtesans. The first part, "Point de vue de l'Opéra", has been attributed to Bernis. The "Rules" is followed by a third and final part, "Historical clarifications", in which a number of actresses are mentioned by name. This rare pamphlet was not in the Goncourt collection, and is not cited in Gay-Lemonnyer's bibliography. Provenance: handwritten bookplate on the title, "Dernezy" (?).
