ROUSSEAU (Jean-Jacques). Complete Collection of the Works of J.J. Rousseau, Citizen of Geneva. In Geneva, s.n. [Société typographique], 1782-1789. 17 vols. in-4, blond shagreened calf, smooth spine decorated with lyre and sheaf in fleurons, red title and subtitles, tomaison on a green medallion, double framing of gilt fillets and roulettes to the boards, gilt roulette to the cups and endpapers, gilt edges (numerous defects to the bindings, including worn headpieces and corners; browning). Important edition of Rousseau's works, edited by Pierre Moultou and Du Peyrou, in which the first part of the Confessions appeared for the first time, together with a separate version in two volumes. Volumes 16 and 17 of this edition contain the continuation and the end of the Confessions. This copy is enriched with plates from the Brussels edition, 1774-1783 *: portrait of the author engraved by A. de Saint Aubin after La Tour, 37 engraved plates, mainly after Moreau le jeune, 19 music plates of which 14 are folding. The workmanship and the decoration of the binding could link it to the workshop of Derôme. Provenance: Jesuit college of Dijon (modern stamp on the titles). (Tchemerzine V, 568).
