[Manuscript]. JEHAN DE BARALLE. Rimes of the Sundays. 1893-1 - Lot 413
[Manuscript]. JEHAN DE BARALLE. Rimes of the Sundays. 1893-1894. Small in-4, contemporary blue half-chagrin with corners, spine with 5 nerves, title and date gilt, decorated caissons, double gilt fillet to the boards, gilt head (slight rubbing). Collection of poems composed by Jehan de Baralle, lyricist active in Paris around 1900, dedicated to a certain Madame M. Cottenet. This one is most certainly the wife of Maurice Cottenet, a Parisian composer at the same time. We know a common work of this poet and musician, "Le Mystère de Sainte-Wilgeforte", libretto by Baralle and music by Cottenet, published in 1895 in the Revue du Monde moderne. Carefully written in ink on English unbleached laid paper, the volume consists of a title leaf, 71 numbered leaves written on the r° alone, and 3 unnumbered leaves. The last leaf contains a table of poems, whose authors are J. de Baralle, or E. Hibou [or Hibon?]. A handwritten leaf in-4° is attached, containing a "Chanson des Mousquetaires" in 5 couplets.
