Jean-Paul LAURENS (1838-1921). Project for... - Lot 131 - Kâ-Mondo
Jean-Paul LAURENS (1838-1921). Project for the ceiling of the Palace of the Legion of Honor, 1875. Pen. Signed at the bottom. Tondo : 31,5 × 32,5 cm (at sight). (Paper insolate). The former palace of Salm-Kyrbourg was acquired in 1804, by order of Napoleon, for the Legion of Honor. After a huge fire during the last days of the Commune, the palace was in ruins. The palace was rebuilt identically thanks to a public subscription launched among all the legionnaires and military medallists. Jean-Paul Laurens was called upon to decorate the Salon des grands chanceliers, one of the most prestigious.
