Hàm Nghi, prince of Annam (1871-1944), called... - Lot 86 - Kâ-Mondo
Hàm Nghi, prince of Annam (1871-1944), called TU XUAN. Hillsides of Algiers. Oil on canvas, ca. 1906-1908. 27 × 40.5 cm. (Missing). The hillsides of Algiers are one of Hàm Nghi's favorite subjects. The crosshatching of the sky contrasts with that of the ground and gives an impression of both movement and perspective, giving the illusion of a windswept landscape. This structured, contrasting and dynamic painting has an impressionist feel. Bibliography: painting published in Amandine Dabat's book, Hàm Nghi, Empereur en exil, artiste à Alger, Sorbonne Université Presses, Paris, 2019, p. 436. We thank Madame Amandine Dabat who confirmed the authenticity of this painting.
