Paul JOUVE (1878-1973). Mosque and Cemetery... - Lot 179 - Kâ-Mondo
Paul JOUVE (1878-1973). Mosque and Cemetery of Hamma, Algiers, 1908. Oil on panel. Signed and located on the back. 60.5 × 39.5 cm. Bibliography: - "Paul Jouve painter sculptor animalier: 1878-1973" Félix Marcilhac, Éditions de l'amateur, Paris 2005, reproduced in color page 51. The mosque was located below the test garden, right next to Jouve's studio. At that time Jouve only made three paintings on these rather particular supports, made of thick wooden slats, which he would not use afterwards. The two other paintings done on this type of support, represented an Arab rider, and the battleship "Democracy", anchored in the roadstead of Algiers, this painting is today in the collections of the Museum of the Thirties, in Boulogne-Billancourt.
