[Post-incunable]. [Hours, Latin, c. 1500]. [Livre d'heures à - Lot 100
[Post-incunable]. [Hours, Latin, c. 1500]. [Livre d'heures à l'usage de Paris, most likely printed by Philippe Pigouchet. Paris, c. 1500]. In-8, [1] f. (dedication added), [101 (out of 136?)] f., pastiche red basane binding, 5-rib spine, gilt title and fleurons, fleur-de-lys and filleted boards, all gilt, green chagrin counterplate with gilt fleur-de-lys, gilt roulette on endpapers (spine and one corner rubbed, upper bit split).
Saved fragments of this illustrated book of hours printed on vellum. The volume begins at leaf b1 and ends at r8, with gaps; 5 (of 17) quires are complete with their 8 leaves. The illustration, entirely wood-engraved, consists of border scenes on each page, as well as 4 full-page compositions (including the Last Judgment and Bathsheba at the Bath). It should be noted that the part illustrated in the margin with scenes of danse macabre appears to be complete: it consists of 25 successive leaves (m4 v° to p4 v°).
The volume is preceded by an illustrated dedication leaf, painted on velin in color and gold at the time of publication. The motif is composed of a central laurel wreath surrounding two coats of arms joined by a cordelière, around which, throughout the leaf, a long phylactery in blue and gold unfurls, bearing the repeated formula: "Fors celle o jay fiance", all on a red background strewn with gold dots; a gilded monogram is repeated at the 4 corners.
