Two works in one volume in-4, [12]-124 f., [2] blank f. ; [4] f., 125 p., contemporary saddle-skin, on wooden boards, spine with 4 bands formerly painted in gray, handwritten titles, boards decorated with cold framing of roulettes, fillets and fleurons, red edges, clasps (spine grooved with tear on one box, a few wear defects, one corner uncovered; fine worm work in the margins of sections b to e, a few moderate scattered russets, stamp scratched on one endpaper).
Beautiful one-volume set of these two spiritual writings, in a contemporary monastic binding. The decoration of a roulette on the boards features portraits, including that of Lucretia and an allegory of justice, and bears the date 1589.
Provenance: German Dominican convent ("Eÿstad."; engraved bookplate dated 1742); unidentified Carmelite convent (19th c. armorial stamp on title and following f.); 2 20th c. stamped bookplates on endpapers, including J. Courtier de Vesle. Old annot. on qq. pages.
