ROUSSEAU (Jean-Jacques). Émile, ou De l'éducation. London, s.n., 1781. 4 volumes in-8, contemporary speckled tawny calf, smooth spines decorated with lyre irons, red and green titles and gills, gilt fillet to edges, marbled edges (ordinary rubbing, corners a little dulled, scattered russets and browning). Attractive edition illustrated with 8 copper-engraved plates by Delvaux after Moreau le jeune, similar to the productions of the publisher Cazin (whose name appears on the first plate of volume 1). Originally in in-18 format, it is printed here in in-8° format, and partly on azure paper. Usually bound at the end of t.4, the 4 Catalogue pages appear here at the end of t.2. (Cohen, 903-904; Fontaine, Cazin, p.202).
