SUETONE. De la vie des douze Césars. Nouvellement traduit en françois, et illustré d'annotations. A Paris, chez J. Gesselin, 1611. In-4, [2] f., 544 p., [12] f. (table), fr., pl., contemporary fawn basane, 5-ribbed spine, gilt title, ornate caissons, rich gilt decoration in small irons covering both covers, gilt roulette at the edges, edges in mottled wood, old restorations at the corners (slight rubbing, front stained, trimmed at the foot, tears and double, a few stains and soiling but not serious, tear in the frame of one plate, very light wetness at the very end of the volume). First edition of this translation by Jean Baudoin (c. 1590 - 1650), one of the first members of the Académie française, elected in 1634. It is illustrated with an architectural frontispiece bearing the arms of France and Navarre, and 12 plates of equestrian portraits of the emperors, all engraved on copper. Modern bookplate F. Coimet.
