Alex CF (BRADSHAW Alex dit, 20th century). - Lot 187
Alex CF (BRADSHAW Alex dit, 20th century).
Werewolf in cardboard, papier-maché, resin and fur, mounted on a pedestal.
H. approx. 160 cm.
On a label: THE WRAITH - Genus: Homo Glutiens.
The wraith is a human, lycan or vampire infected by a virulent, aggressive pathogen that causes insatiable hunger.
The "wraith" virus is thought to be an adaptation of the "wampyrus" strain. In this case, cell rejuvenation is a constant cycle of renewal and decomposition. If this process is not satisfied, the wraith begins to decay, starting with the epidermis, then the muscles and organic tissues.
The horrifying vision of a starving spectre, bones bare, gums retracted, eyes pale and lifeless, has given rise to many myths and is directly responsible for the zombie legends of Haiti. In the 19th century, spectral epidemics in New York saw hundreds of infected decimate the slums around the port.
Provenance: Merrylin Museum by Alex CF.
Specimen from the prodigious deception of artist Alex CF, curator and creator of the Merrylin Crypted Museum. Thomas Merrylin, crypto-naturalist, zoologist and xeno-archaeologist, a figure straight out of the artist's imagination, is said to have collected thousands of specimens totally challenging our understanding of nature and species never before observed by the modern world. Alex CF has succeeded in creating a legend around creations as fascinating as they are repulsive.
