ISABEL CANOVAS - Lot 33
ISABEL CANOVAS Spectacular six-row bracelet with large, multicolored, pearly and colored imitation pearls, clasp with two gilded bronze masks facing each other. Unsigned. Circa 1980. (Alterations to the pearl paint in places, restorations). Bibliography: Similar model reproduced in Fantaisies, Les bijoux Chic et Toc, Jane Mulvagh, preface by Paloma Picasso, Éditions du Chêne, Paris, 1989. Isabel Canovas called on artisans for her luxurious accessory creations, combining leather, metal, semi-precious stones, trimmings and fur. She began her career at Dior, before opening her own boutique under her own name in 1982, offering her customers haute couture accessories. The concept was new. Each piece of jewelry was made from original designs and molds, sometimes using up to eight different craftsmen. Isabel Canovas' pieces stand out for their size, boldness and sound, leaving a clatter of chains, bracelets and pearls in their wake.
