Florin, Benoît. Ecuyes and receivers. From the Wars of Religion to the French Revolution. Untitled, published by Chez l'auteur in 2011. In quarto / In-4 paperback. 160 pages, numerous color and black & white illustrations throughout. A very interesting social study of the middle classes in Picardy under the Ancien Régime, undertaken by Benoît Florin. In this study, the author uses numerous biographical notes on the members of the de Leurye family to show how a family could rise through the ranks of Ancien Régime society between the 16th and the end of the 18th centuries. He shows the relative permeability of this society, which enabled certain members of the emerging middle class to move from the petty bourgeoisie to the petty nobility in just a few generations. Very good condition, corners slightly rubbed.
