Correspondence boxes. Lot of 8 boxes of handwritten correspo - Lot 405
Correspondence boxes. Lot of 8 boxes of handwritten correspondence
Lot of 8 boxes of miscellaneous correspondence from the Biache, Labarre, Texier and Bouvais families, dating from 1856 to the mid-1950s.
These letters cover more than 100 years of history, and some, such as those sent by a Labarre between 1870 and 1872, to his parents-in-law (the Biaches), are a very interesting testimony to the 1870 war and the Commune; he was in Paris when the Commune broke out, and gives a first-hand insight into the events of its early days. Similarly, one of the boxes contains the Labarre family's correspondence during the First World War, with an assortment of period postcards and family letters.
There are some 1,200 letters in all, spread across the 8 boxes.
The letters are written in brown, black, blue, purple and other inks, on an assortment of different colored papers.
Very good condition.
