Mahogany calf. Spine decorated with gilt irons. Red speckled edges. (8)+328+(15) pages. Binding worn, headpieces loose and right jaw split over 5cm at top. Some brown spots. The work is a collection of jurisprudence from the Parlement de Paris, between 1580 and 1621. It covers a wide range of subjects, from civil liability and inheritance law to donations and seigniorial law. For example, the Parlement de Paris ruled at the time that hoteliers are liable for things deposited in their hotels, at all hours, because otherwise "the law of nations is violated, and public commerce ceases, the communication of peoples & nations, traffic no longer takes place" (arrêt XV, page 30). A fine copy in good condition, with a very attractive woodcut entablature, cherubs and royal coat-of-arms with three fleurs-de-lys.
