First edition. First edition of this work by Marie-Jean Hérault de Séchelles (1759-1794). In it, he gives a series of maxims, arranged by theme, aimed at defining ambition and putting it into practice. This work was first printed in 1788 under the title "Codicille politique et pratique d'un jeune habitant d'Épone" (Political and practical codicil of a young inhabitant of Epone), before being destroyed due to fears of its reception. The 1802 edition, enriched with notes by Jacques-Barthélemy Salgues, is based on a manuscript then held by a minister. Very good condition; clean interior, virtually free of freckling.
