HERMÈS Paris. 29 cm vintage Kelly handbag, in black box leather, gold-plated metal clasps and fasteners, leather handle, black leather interior and inside pockets, studs, padlock and keys under cloche. Circa 1948 to 1953 (Letter D engraved on strap inside). 29 × 10 × 20 cm. Hand-thrown height: 11 cm. (Vintage condition, significant wear and cracking of the split leather at the handle, marked wear at the corners, numerous exterior and interior damp stains and pitting, numerous scratches from use, padlock and keys from the Maison Hermès but not matching and not allowing the padlock to be opened, bell probably reported, alterations to the jewelry and picots). Formerly the Sac à courroie, this model was created in the 1930s by the Maison Hermès. Made famous in 1956 by Grace Kelly, who wore it with glamorous elegance, it was renamed the Kelly bag in tribute to her, and became the world-famous and coveted luxury bag par excellence. The model we are presenting here is a very early and rare piece, most likely dating from 1948 (to 1953) due to the frameless D lettering engraved on the inside of one of the straps.
