Abel BONNARD: Lectures.
Autograph notebooks of his readings of Procopius of Caesarea's Histoire secrète de Justinien, Les femmes blondes selon les peintres de l'école de Venise, a biography of the painter Vermeer, and Emile Mâle's Le Moyen-Âge et les pèlerinages.
These reading notes are much more informative than critical, as the majority of these notebooks are a collection of descriptions of the ancient rules of etiquette among the religious hierarchy, the characteristics of the saints, the costumes of religious according to order, etc., all sometimes adorned with sketches.
109 in-16 pages in a full cream cloth bradel binding, spine slightly creased, title page on old red leather, one edge slightly rubbed, title "Lectures" in gold initials.
An illustrative object of Abel Bonnard's scholarly and research work, as often adorned with his well-crafted sketches. A small mine of information.
