BONNARD, Abel. Abel Bonnard's library - Lot 40
BONNARD, Abel. Abel Bonnard's library
Set composed as follows:
- An autograph letter signed "AB" (Abel Bonnard) dated January 9, 1961 in Madrid, addressed to "mon cher maître". It seems that the bookseller Giraud-Badin drew up a brief inventory of the books in former minister Abel Bonnard's library before his exile in Spain following the Liberation. "It seems certain to me that my library has been skimmed", he then proposes the list that follows, "drawn up according to my memories", in order to give his interlocutor a basis "to appreciate what is missing". Finally, he asks that a copy be sent to the bookseller Loliée. Two pages in-8
- List of books in his library: 11 in-8 pages, each double-sided.
He gives as many details as possible, and sometimes adds a few comments: of Tristan's poems, which he is told are incomplete, he specifies that he owned two copies, each complete, including one given to him by Henri de Regnier, "who would certainly not have given me a defective copy"; "quantity de plaquettes de Tamizey de Laroque, which I collected with care"; in addition to French history and critical literature, there are numerous works relating to Abel Bonnard's travels between the wars: "quantity of travels I had collected for the book I had written on the Mediterranean of the Barbary pirates, the manuscript of which must have been stolen".
Presented in a full green cloth bradel binding, spine smooth and unstained, title page on black leather, rubbed, inside fresh.
A very interesting behind-the-scenes set by Abel Bonnard.
