New, revised, corrected & enlarged edition of this history, written by Abbé Jean-Baptiste Dubos, of the establishment of the Franks in Gaul and of the French monarchy. The "letter from Abbé Dubos to M. Jourdan", in which the Abbé responds to the criticisms levelled against his work, follows the main body of the text.
In it, he asserts, among other things, that France is the sole legitimate heir of Rome, which gives its monarchy a different status from those of other European nations, and that the Franks had been called to Gaul by the Roman authorities and had not invaded it, as was thought at the time.
