LEDUC (Violette). L'Affamée. - Lot 127
LEDUC (Violette). L'Affamée. First edition of Violette Leduc's second novel, dedicated to Jacques Guérin, enriched with a L.A.S. from the author to the latter. Sceaux, Palimurge Éditeur [Jean-Jacques Pauvert], 1948. In-4 (25 × 17 cm), paperback, uncut. Top cover split 3 cm. Edition of 143 copies; one of 130 numbered on Moroccan cream vellum. First edition. Violette Leduc (1907-1972) was a French novelist and author of audacious, essentially autobiographical works that transgressed cultural codes to highlight various types of sexual and emotional marginalization, so much so that her works often shocked and offended the public. Among the writers of her time, she was admired by Camus, Genet, Jouhandeau and Sartre, and was strongly supported by Simone de Beauvoir. In a preface to La Bâtarde, the latter wrote: "A woman descends to the innermost depths of herself, and she recounts with intrepid sincerity, as if there were no one there to listen to her. Enclosed: a L.A.S. dated February 16, 1955 from Violette Leduc to Jacques Guérin, who is the dedicatee of this work.
