RONSARD (Pierre de). DUNOYER DE SEGONZAC (André). Quelques s - Lot 168
RONSARD (Pierre de). DUNOYER DE SEGONZAC (André). Quelques sonnets de Ronsard. Splendid art deco binding by Madeleine Gras for this work illustrated by Dunoyer de Segonzac, here with a signed suite on Japon. Paris, Imprimerie Nationale, 1955. In-4 (32 × 26 cm), full taupe morocco, boards decorated with a very fine inlay of red and white morocco completed by a gilt fillet, the whole forming an elegant and rich ornamental decoration, smooth mosaic spine, gilt edges, gray nubuck endpapers and double endpapers, covers and spine preserved, folder and slipcase (Gras). Illustrated with 51 etchings by Dunoyer de Segonzac, here with a suite on Japon. Edition of 195 copies on Arches vellum, watermarked with burl leaf; here one of 39 copies with a signed and numbered suite on Japon. Madeleine Gras (1891-1958) was an Art Deco bookbinder who attended the Union Centrale des Arts Décoratifs. Like Rose Adler, she also trained with Henri Noulhac. Her bindings are particularly sought-after. This copy features what appears to be the preparatory drawing for the watermark on the "à la feuille de ronce" paper, perhaps by Dunoyer de Segonzac?
