New edition of this theoretical chemistry work, the first by Pierre-Joseph Macquer (1718-1784). Working alongside Sigaud de la Fond and later Lavoisier, he was one of the protagonists of modern chemistry and the abandonment of the Aristotelian system of the 4 elements (air, water, earth and fire). In this work, like other chemists of his time, he attempts to reveal the substances that are similar to all the elements. The edition is enhanced by a fine engraved vignette on the title page and 4 fold-out plates at the end of the volume, depicting instruments and tables of the various elements.
A pleasant contemporary copy, very fresh inside.
