First edition of this unusual work by Toussaint Rapou (1777-1857), a physician from Lyon who was interested in the effects of steam on various illnesses, particularly chronic diseases. He opened a steam bath establishment in 1819, and published this book on the occasion. His fumigatory apparatus, ancestor of the sauna, is shown here on 2 fold-out plates engraved at the end of the volume. Fair condition, copy partly uncut.
