Based on an analysis of over 1,200 cases observed at the Hôpital de la Charité in Paris, Tanquerel des Planches presents a highly detailed study of lead poisoning. The book presents a detailed classification of the various clinical manifestations of lead poisoning, including lead colic, paralysis and lead encephalopathy. The author also identifies the professions most at risk of lead poisoning, such as house painters, ceramics workers and lead smelters. Finally, he gives recommendations on preventive measures to be adopted to reduce lead exposure (masks, cleanliness instructions). The plate illustrates a lead smelting furnace and masks to protect miners.
