BEJOT, Eugène. Du Ier au XXe, les arrondissements de Paris. 20 original etchings by Eugène Béjot. Preface by Jules Claretie. Published in Paris by the Société de Propagation des Livres d'Art in 1903. One volume, In-4 format, in an illustrated folder with two flaps. (4 f.)+V+(1 f.), 20 etchings. Charming complete suite of etchings depicting various views of the arrondissements of Paris. Original etchings by Eugène Béjot (1867-1931) for this prestige edition, limited to 200 copies, this being one of the 25 numbered first editions on Japon (n°14), with a proof of the cover before the letter. Eugène Béjot, with a line as light as it is deep, highlights the picturesque and charming corners of the capital, capturing a fleeting moment of life at the turn of the century. "Twenty arrondissements! Twenty plates from Pont-Neuf to Cours de Vincennes. Streets, suburbs, bridges, quays. The Pont de l'Alma, the Canal Saint-Martin, the Moulin de la Galette. A Paris you don't go to. A Paris that would astonish an inhabitant of the Faubourg St-Germain and amuse a boulevardier. A Paris that lives, that teems, that thinks..." (Jules Claretie, preface, p. IV) A rare copy in excellent condition, as touching as it is poetic.
