Published in Paris, London and Marseille by Flammarion; Alcan; Desclée de Brouwer; Legrand; Longman; BJM; Michalon; Mercure de France; Editions du Rocher and Masson between 1860 and 2005. 13 volumes in octavo / In-8 format, stapled. Approx. 200 pages per volume. A varied collection of fourteen biographies of illustrious figures. They include works on Madame de Sévigné, Chekhov, Edgar Allan Poe, Rimbaud, Sade and Shakespeare. The set includes three hardbacks and eleven paperbacks. Of particular note is Bucknill's "Shakespeare's medical knowledge" (1860) in taupe hardback with embossed decoration. Overall good condition. Pradel's "Madame de Sevigné en Provence" and Duehren's "Le Marquis de Sade et son temps" are in fragile condition.
