STERNE, Laurence. OEuvres complètes de L. Sterne, traduites de l'anglais ; par une société de gens de lettres. Published in Paris by Ledoux et Tenre in 1818. 4 volumes in-8, half red basane, spines decorated with gilt fetters and fillets, yellow edges. 570 pp. ; 552 pp. ; 572 pp. ; 376 pp. including 15 plates. Some damage to boards, corners and spines rubbed. Minor foxing. Nice edition of this translation of Sterne's work, one of the founders of the modern novel. The story is embellished with fifteen fine plates and a frontispiece portrait of the author, engraved after Sébastien-Joseph Misbach. The first two volumes contain "The Life and Opinions of Tristram Shandy, Gentleman", his most famous novel, originally published in nine volumes over a period of ten years. A pleasant copy of this major work of English literature.
