DARWIN, Erasmus. La Zoonomie, ou Lois de la Vie Organique (Z - Lot 235
DARWIN, Erasmus. La Zoonomie, ou Lois de la Vie Organique (Zoonomy, or Laws of Organic Life), published in Ghent in 1810, in two volumes of In-8 format, half peach morocco, with approximately 650 pages per volume. Some quires uncut, page edges worn, otherwise good condition. In this work, Erasmus Darwin (1731-1802) proposes to reduce and essentialize the facts relating to living bodies, in order to unite the laws of organic life under a single point of view. To this end, he studied and classified the various natural senses, diseases and behaviors. He was a precursor of the theory of evolutionism that his grandson, Charles Darwin, would develop and establish. This edition is accompanied by 7 plates, mainly on the retina and sight. Translation by Joseph-François Kluyskens on the third edition. Note that the present set consists of the first book, divided into 40 sections, while the complete work includes another book which sets out to complete the classification of disease types outlined in the first part.
