DE GRAAF, Regneri. Regneri de Graaf Opera Omnia, published i - Lot 236
DE GRAAF, Regneri. Regneri de Graaf Opera Omnia, published in Lyon by Jean-Antoine Huguetan et associés in 1678, one volume in In-12 format, brown calf. Spine ribbed and decorated with gilt fleurons and caissons. XX+(2 f.)+390 pages, 41 copper-engraved plates, most of them folding, engraved title page and portrait of the author. Text in Latin. Missing upper headpiece, spine worn, corners rounded, rubbing with missing lower cut. First hinge open. Margins of plates sometimes a little faded. A very fine illustrated edition of the complete works of Régnier de Graaf, a Dutch physician. It compiles the known works of this master anatomist (1641-1673), a pioneer in the study of the reproductive system. In addition to an engraved title page and portrait of the author, it is richly illustrated with 41 anatomical plates. This edition, probably a second, includes the following works: - De vivorum organis generationi inservientibus (in which the author offers original reflections and destroys a number of errors); - Epistola ad Virum Clarissimum Lucam Schacht, Medicinae in Acad. Lugduno-Batava Professorem, De Partibus Genitalibus Mulierum - De Mulierum organis generationi inservientibus (in which De Graaf gives a more exact and ample description of the parts of female generation than had previously been given).
- Partium genetalium defensio (polemical writing against Swammerdam) - De Succi Pancreatici natura & usu - De Clysteribus - Epistola ad Vopiscum Fortunatum Plempium, M. D. & in Acad. Lovaniensi professorem Primarium - De Usu Siphonis in Anatomia - Tractatus anatomico-medicus de succi pancreatici natura et usu With bookplate (label) of Dr. François Moutier, and two handwritten crossed-out bookplates. Rare reference text in the history of medicine and natural sciences.
