Published in Paris by Vallat-la-Chapelle, libraire au Palais in 1767 and 1768. Two volumes in three, In octavo / In-8. Full mahogany basane, ribbed spine, red morocco mounted title page and red edges. (2 f.)+XCV+264; LVI+(201 to 509) and XXXII+320 pages, 33 plates and a frontispiece in each volume. Small worm hole extending over the entire pages of the first volume. Some spotting and loss of gilding. Some faint foxing to edges. In this interesting work of physics and physiology, Claude Nicolas Le Cat presents the culmination of his research, notably a theory of light propagation that opposes Newton's. Le Traité des sensations is divided into the first two volumes, the third being a supplement. The first volume deals with the physiology of sensations and passions, while the second corresponds to the Traité des Sensations as published in 1740, i.e. with pagination beginning with 201. The supplement includes a Theory of Hearing. The plates are distributed as follows: 2 plates for the first volume and 18, including 4 fold-outs, for the second volume, as well as 13 fold-outs, numbered I to XIII, which are identical in the supplement. Fairly good condition overall, fresh inside.
