STRATZ, Carl Heinrich. La Beauté de la Femme. Published in Paris by Gaultier Magnier en Cie, circa 1902. One volume, In-8 format. 1900-style publisher's boards. (4)+337 pages, with 180 illustrations. Upper corners a little bent, otherwise good condition. A fine copy, translated by Robert Waltz. This publication was written by Carl Heinrich Stratz (1858-1924), a German physician and gynecologist. Its aim was to provide the layman with a study of the beauty of the female body, who, unlike the doctor or artist, never had the opportunity to actually observe the female nude. The book is illustrated with numerous commented photographs, showing the age and origin of the models, mainly young girls from Germany and Austria. It is intended to be a rigorous, scientific approach to beauty and natural variations in the female body, rather than a simple collection of nudes.
