ORLÉANS, Henri d'. Alesia. A study of Caesar's seventh campaign in Gaul. Published in Paris by Michel Lévy in 1859. In octavo / In-8 format. Taupe half-maroquin with gilt filleted corners. 5-rib spine with gold fillet underlining, double gilt fillet bindings embellished with gilt fleurons and corner fleurons, title and author in gilt lettering, "L.F." monograms surmounted by a gilt crown at tail. Marbled edges, combed paper endpapers and boards. Contemporary binding. VIII + 245 pages, with 2 maps (Alise and Alaise) on a folding plate. Minor rubbing to leather, corners slightly dulled. Scattered foxing. Interesting study of Caesar's seventh campaign in Gaul, by the Duc d'Aumale, a member of the Capetian House of Orleans, who was one of the leading bibliophiles and collectors of ancient art of his time. A fine copy, beautifully bound.
