VOIRON, Vincent. Phanor poëme en quatre chants. - Lot 121
VOIRON, Vincent. Phanor poëme en quatre chants. Published in Geneve by Chez Pigeon in 1781. In octavo / In-8 format. Garnet morocco. Smooth spine with green leather title-piece decorated with gilt small irons, fine framing decoration on the boards composed of a fine gilt roulette, a green mosaic garland and a gilt leafy motif, inner gilt roulette, gilt paper lining and endpapers, gilt fillet on the edges, gilt edges. Contemporary binding. 80 pages. Minor scuffing and staining to first board, central browning to second. Corners slightly dulled, some scattered foxing. Rare first edition (the poem was republished in 1785) of this curious epic celebrating love marriages made "in accordance with nature", according to the magical formula in vogue at the end of the 18th century. This appears to be the only published text by Abbé Vincent Voiron (1743-1803), parish priest of Domarin (Isère) from 1774 to 1793. Cioranescu, XVIII, 63 665. A fine copy in a binding reminiscent of the workmanship of Derôme le Jeune.
