Complete, uniformly bound set of the six volumes making up the illustrated edition of Le Quichotte published by Thomas Amaulry, François Filleau de Saint-Martin and Robert Challe. Of these six volumes, the first five were printed in 1718, while the sixth, written by Challe, dates from 1713 (the year of the original edition, given in Paris a few months earlier). Commissioned by bookseller Claude Barbin in the 1670s and published between 1677 and 1678, Filleau de Saint-Martin's 4-volume translation of Le Quichotte quickly established itself as one of the leading editions of Cervantes' novel, and remained so throughout the 18th century. Barbier, I, 1751. Bindings very tired but interiors surprisingly fresh.
