CHOISY, François Timoléon de. Journal du voyage de Siam fait en 1685 & 1686. Published in Paris by Sebastien Mabre-Cramoisy in 1687. In twelve / In-12 (140x80 mm) format. Brown basane, spine ribbed, decorated with gilt small irons, red speckled edges. 3 f.n.ch., 652, 1 f.n.ch. Binding overall rubbed with leather loss at spine, headbands loose, corners dull, quires out of order. Second edition, published in the same year as the original but in a different format, of the famous account of Abbé de Choisy's travels in Siam between 1685 and 1686 with King Narai. Retired from the Missions étrangères de Paris seminary in 1683 following an illness, he was sent as coadjutor to the Chevalier de Chaumont and accompanied him on his journey to Siam. Abbé de Choisy was admitted to the Académie française in the year of publication of the original edition. Chadenat, n°5038. A fairly fresh copy, despite a binding showing signs of wear.
