GUARINI, Giovanni Battista. Il Pastor Fido. - Lot 139
GUARINI, Giovanni Battista. Il Pastor Fido. Published in Venice by Domenico Lovisa in 1713. In-18 format (120x60mm). Shell marbled paper boards. Smooth spine with handwritten label. 240 pages, 39 woodcuts in the text (title page and headbands). Binding rubbed, head cap worn. Staining in text at head margin. This reprint of Guarini's "Pastor Fido" follows, less than a year later, the premiere of Handel's opera of the same name, with a libretto by Rossi based on the play. It is lavishly illustrated with some forty woodcuts at the beginning of each scene, dramatizing the action taking place there. A charming, fairly well-preserved edition.
