LE CORBUSIER and PIERREFEU, François de. La Maison des Hommes. Paris, Librairie Plon, 1942. In-8 paperback, illustrated cover. 209 pp, 95 engravings in text, 4 lithographed color plates out of text. Uncut. Slight yellowing, foxing. Stained cover. First edition with an autograph letter from Le Corbusier, who also signs for his co-author François de Pierrefeu. A press copy complete with a leaflet for newspapers. François de Pierrefeu, an engineer, and Le Corbusier collaborated on this work at a time when Le Corbusier was trying to sell his ideas to the Vichy regime. The aim of this treatise is to reconcile the architect and the engineer in order to propose solutions to the housing problems of the time. The pages on the left contain Pierrefeu's considerations, while those on the right feature captioned drawings by Le Corbusier. A perfect record of Le Corbusier's thinking and the architectural revolutions that followed.
