Cornelius Herbert (sometimes called Harbert, active c. 1660-1714), England, London (1670-1696), London Bridge, late 17th century. Tilting mechanical movement, domed white enamel dial with rope motif, Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals for the minutes, ribbon hour markers, gilded hands, cock decorated with a circular miniature of a painted courtesan, baluster pillars, missing a few pins, verge escapement, meeting wheel, chain and spindle. Diameter: 4.2 cm. Other mechanisms are preserved in museums, notably the Metropolitan Museum in New York and the British Museum in London. As is.
