Abraham Fromanteel (1646-1731) & Christopher Clarke (1668-1735), Netherlands, Amsterdam. Late 17th - early 18th century. Gilt copper onion pocket watch with hinged case and surboîte, domed white enameled dial, Roman numerals for the hours, Arabic numerals for the minutes, blackened steel hands, chemin de fer hour markers. Tilting mechanical movement, rich balloon-shaped cockerel, entirely pierced with scrolls, storks, flowers and shellfish. Carved pillars and chased belt. Escapement with verge, meeting wheel, chain and spindle. Complete. As is.
Diameter of dial: 4.4 cm; of case: 5 cm; of case: 5.7 cm. Other movements and systems from this workshop are preserved, notably in the British Museum.
