[ROBERT CAPAA]. WHELAN, Richard. This is War: Robert Capa at - Lot 302
[ROBERT CAPAA]. WHELAN, Richard. This is War: Robert Capa at Work. New York and Göttingen, International Center of Photography and Steidl, 2007. In-4, publisher's illustrated boards. 287 pages, numerous black and color illustrations in and out of text. Two-column text in English. Minor scuffing, covers slightly rubbed. New edition of this monograph devoted to the war reports of Robert Capa, history's first "photojournalist", published on the occasion of the eponymous exhibition organized in New York by the International Center of Photography. The book provides a detailed overview of six of his most important war reports from the first half of his career: "The Fallen Soldier" (1936), Chinese resistance to Japanese invasion (1938), the end of the Spanish Civil War in Catalonia (1938-1939), D-Day (1944), the invasion of Germany by American paratroopers (1945) and the liberation of Leipzig (1945). This revised edition includes an introduction by renowned photography historian Richard Whelan and a wealth of historical documents: period prints, contact sheets, letters and magazine layouts, many of which are published here for the first time. A very fine copy.
