Graphite, watercolor and gouache on wove paper (65 x 50 cm).
Some soiling and staining to margins, right margin slightly faded.
In pure late Art Deco style, rather inspired by the Basque design in vogue in the '30s, a line of schematized sailors meanders around a symbolic red line, as this beautiful, streamlined poster project advertises a dance party aboard the liner Massilia given on May 10, 1938 for the opening of a new cruise line. The large black geometric font adds to the charm of this project for a shipping company typical of its period.
