HÉRICAULT, Charles d'. La Révolution. 1789 - 1882. - Lot 159

HÉRICAULT, Charles d'. La Révolution. 1789 - 1882. Paris, Librairie de D. Dumoulin & Cie, 1883. Large format in-4. Bottle-green half-chagrin, spine ribbed, cover preserved. 445 pages, 26 plates, some double, including frontispiece 14 chromolithographs and 2 facsimiles. Spine insolate, three small epidermal marks: two on the nerves, one on the second plate, rare foxing. First edition of this work on the French Revolution and the ideal of technical and moral progress it helped to propagate, first in France, then throughout Europe. The interest of d'Hérault's study lies in the fact that it does not stop at the beginning of the Consulate or the end of the Empire, but continues until just one year before the book's publication. A handsome, well-bound, fairly fresh copy.
