[BÉNIN]DUCHÂTEAU, Armand. Bénin. Royal treasure. Collection - Lot 34

[BÉNIN]DUCHÂTEAU, Armand. Bénin. Royal treasure. Collection of the Museum für völkerkunde, Vienna. Paris, Éditions Dapper, 1990. In-4, publisher's boards, in illustrated dust jacket. 135 pages. Numerous black and color photographs throughout. Catalog of works from the royal treasury of Benin held by the collection of the Museum für Völkerkunde in Vienna. Part of the great court art of Benin since the 13th century, these works were created by masters of the lost-wax casting technique and display a disturbingly naturalistic tendency. These dwarf figures, commemorative heads and bas-reliefs, in ivory or bronze, capture the rites and ceremonies of court life. Very good condition.
