A two-headed sculpture representing two opposing horses, the - Lot 17
A two-headed sculpture representing two opposing horses, their half-open mouths revealing teeth. The axis joining the two heads is covered with a long apron of leather bangs and cowrie shells. Ties surround each head like a kind of harness. The whole piece is covered with a thick, finely cracked black sacrificial patina. Bambara, Mali. H. 56 cm. (One broken head glued back together) Probably used as part of the Kono secret society, as the characteristic patina suggests, this is an unusual representation.
