Sculpture of a mythical figure with beard, breasts and two pairs of arms, one on the body, the other raised to the sky. The work is still very legible under the thick, grey, crusty sacrificial patina. The state of preservation is remarkable. Tellem, Mali. H. 40 cm. Exhibition: an archetype of the genre, this pre-16th-century figure was exhibited at the Musée Branly in 2011 as part of the "Dogon" exhibition. Bibliography: Catalogue of the "Dogon" exhibition at the Musée Branly in 2011, reproduced as a double-page spread under number 19.
