Column-altar featuring four bust-like figures with hands clasped around a navel housing a fetish cavity. The four masked heads are finely sculpted. The top of the central column is hollowed out and has retained a magical charge. Hardwood with old, shiny brown patina. Traces of old white kaolin staining. Songye, Democratic Republic of Congo. H. 55 cm. Rare and ancient multi-headed figure, probably used in divination rituals.
