A rectangular travel chest that doubles as a writing desk, made of stained walnut with inlaid bone decorations featuring circular and star-shaped geometric motifs. The top is adorned with a checkerboard pattern in the center. The hinged lid opens to reveal a large compartment surrounded by four small drawers and three compartments. Removable wrought-iron handles on the sides.
Venice, 16th century.
Brand mark: a “P” within a fruit (probably a collector’s mark).

(Replaced brass hinges, locks, and brackets; partially replaced bottom; repairs and alterations. Replaced blackened wood framing molding. Interior lined with crimson velvet from a later period. Minimal old woodworm damage)
