New edition of the Actes de la Dispute de Berne, which took place from January 6 to 27, 1528. Attractive title page printed in black and red, with a large engraved vignette bearing the arms of the city of Bern. The Swiss Confession is appended, with its own title page, in black and with the same armorial vignette. Handwritten bookplate on title page.
A showdown rather than a theological colloquy, the disputatio of Berne turned to the advantage of the supporters of the Protestant Reformation. With the agreement of a majority of Bernese gathered in the cathedral on February 2, the Bernese Councils adopted a reform edict on February 7. The Swiss Confession expresses the common beliefs of the Reformed churches of Switzerland. This 1701 reprint shows the exceptional influence and importance of these texts.
Very fine typographical impression, in good condition.
