[PEZRON, Paul-Yves]. L'Antiquité des tems rétablie et défend - Lot 12
[PEZRON, Paul-Yves]. L'Antiquité des tems rétablie et défenduë contre les Juifs & les nouveaux Chronologistes. Paris, Veuve Edme Martin - Jean Boudot - Estienne Martin, 1687. In-4, full brown calf, spine decorated with richly decorated caissons with crowned numeral in the center, gilt edges, speckled edges. 4 ff.n.ch. - 39 (table) - 295 - 36 (canon) pages. 1 engraved title vignette, engraved head and tailpieces. Heads loose, jaws split, spine split above tail box, corners dull, small amount of foxing, a few leaves browned. Historical and theological essay on the origin of time, seeking to refute modern chronologists who, following in the footsteps of Jewish historians, have estimated the age of the world at only four thousand years. On the contrary, the author, Pierre Pezron, attributes it to five thousand five hundred years. Religious, Cistercian chronologist and grammarian, Pierre Pezron is known for his research into the common origins of the Welsh and the Bretons. Here, he gives an apologetic slant to his story, serving a broader refutation of Judaism that "took nearly fifteen centuries off the first Patriarchs (...) to show that the time of the Messiah had not yet arrived". Handwritten bookplate crossed out on title page [Georges de Sardière?] Beautiful contemporary binding, interior well preserved.
